Steve is a new comer to astronomy, having an interest in looking up at the stars since he was young. Being mainly interested in astrophotography, the equipment used by Steve includes the following:

bulletTakahashi TSA102S [Tak-Reducer] From F8 to F6
bulletVixen VC200L 8" F9 [Thanks to David Rolfe for recommending this marvellous scope!]
bulletMeade SCT 8" F10
bulletOrion ED80 F7.6 [used as guide scope]
bulletG11 + Gemini4
bulletEQ6 - Pro [EDMOD Software control]
bulletHutech Canon EOS40DH / Meade DSI2
bulletMeade DSI 1 + 2 [Guide cameras]
bulletLaptop
bulletSoftware:
bulletPhotoshop
bulletDeep Sky Stacker
bulletRegistar
bulletStarry Night

Typical astrophotography configurations:

Team VIXEN - Steven Mohr and David Rolfe
Heathcote March 2009

Vixen VC200L and TSA102 mounted together on T adaptor plate [Orion now used as guide scope], using Canon 40DH for photographs, and Meade DSI2 for guide camera. All mounted on EQ6 Pro mount. Orion ED80 + DSI 2  work PHD Software via EQMOD software to guide EQ6 Pro mount. Canon 40D software is used to manage the 40DH settings and automated exposures.

Past configuration saw the Orion ED80 piggy backed on the Meade LX200 GPS. No guiding, and a field de-rotator was used in the ED80 to de-rotate image movement whilst the mount was in Alt-Az mode. A modified Canon 350D was previously used with great results.

Public Viewing Nights

Just to let everyone know, public viewing nights are held every first Friday of the month. Clear or cloudy nights the public viewing night goes ahead. Members man a number of telescopes of various sizes and types, and for those nights where the sky is cloudy, extended astronomical presentations are presented in the MPAS Viewing Centre.

So please come along and enjoy our nights sky.
