National Science Week Events!

As part of the National Science week Events, the Mornington Peninsula Astronomical Society will host a number of events, including additional public viewing nights as listed following:

1) Friday August 6th, 8pm.

2) Friday August 13th, 8pm.

3) Friday August 20th, 8pm.

4) Saturday August 21st, **6pm**. Astrophotography theme.

5) Friday August 27th, 8pm.

So if you want to escape your day-to-day planet Earth concerns and instead ponder the mysteries of the night sky and Universe, then come along!

Bring your 5 senses to an Astronomy evening with the Mornington Peninsula Astronomical Society. See the Universe through powerful telescopes, hear the REALLY BIG questions out there and experience some of the short space films from this year's CSIRO SCINEMA (Science Cinema). Feel and smell meteorites scarily up close and personal, and get the taste for more. The evening starts indoors with a multimedia talk and Q&A then, weather permitting, moves outside onto the adjacent observing field with the telescopes underneath the night sky. Please dress appropriately for being outdoors and on a grassy or uneven surface. You may bring a small torch if you wish. For the armchair astronomers, short astronomy films from this year's CSIRO SCINEMA festival will be screened indoors during the evening from about 9pm.

Standard items occurring on a monthly basis are as follows:

bulletHeld on the FIRST FRIDAY of each month at the Briars Visitors Centre, commencing at 8:00PM, these popular events are a great chance to view the Moon, planets like Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, interesting stars and clusters as well as bright satellite and Space Station passes, all with a wide array of telescopes supplied by our members.

bulletThe MPAS regularly holds its General Meetings for members and anyone interested in joining the Society, on the THIRD WEDNESDAY of each month, at the Peninsula School Lecture Theatre, Wooralla Drive, Mount Eliza, Victoria, commencing at around 8pm.

These meetings are an informal way of learning more about the MPAS and it's activities and new members are always welcome. They are usually divided into two sessions separated by a coffee break.

The meetings are held at the Senior School, Peninsula School, Mt Eliza (Melways 105 F5), and start at 8pm.
